Happy Holidays!

Dear Oscar.

My Sweet Ozzy Boy,
I love you so much it hurts. Time is going by far too quickly and your babyhood is disappearing by the day. I am sorry I haven't had as much time to write these letters to you as I would like.  I do love telling you stories while you nurse in the quiet of the night though. You are such a sweet, sweet tiny human.  At four and a half months you love to roll over, grab your toes and watch everything. Oscar, I hope you know how much you and your Daddy and sisters adore you. Even though it feels like smothering it really is deep love. You have blessed our family immensely! Thank you for being my little dude. You rock my world Ozzy!
Love you to the stars,
Momma

On The Day You Were Born: Oscar's Edition

My sweet sweet Oscar boy,
I waited a looooong 9 months for you. The second you joined our family I felt complete. You are meant to be our son. It was hard pregnancy but worth every second. This pregnancy brought the longest time sick, so hot, tired, sore, cranky, daily heartburn and you were incredibly LOW. I didn't think I would ever make it to the end. Your due date was August 1st, 2014. I think Gretchen knew weeks before that date that I wouldn't be able to stay pregnant that long or I was going to lose my mind. The entire pregnancy you were measuring ahead of your due date. When I went in for my 39 week appointment and had lost a few pounds and you hadn't grown at all that week we felt comfortable letting you make your debut early. I was scheduled for an elective induction on the morning of July 25th.  It had been a busy night at the hospital that night so they didn't have a room ready for us until about 10:00 a.m. I was started on Pitocin and I.V. fluids around 11:00. The beginning labor process was perfectly smooth. I labored through contractions while Dad and I watched The Price is Right. After a few hours I sent Dad to get himself some lunch and had them set up my epidural while he was out of the room. Gretchen came in shortly after and broke my water. The epidural took the edge off and Dad and I watched funny YouTube videos for an hour or so.  Around 4:30 I started having some sharp pains in my side. The epidural was losing power and we weren't sure what was causing the pain. Looking back the nurse thinks you had your hand up by your face and was pushing on sore stretched muscles.  I pushed the epidural button for another dose.  No change.  I pushed the button again and still no change. At this point I was feeling a lot of pressure and Gretchen checked me. I was 8.5 cm. Within an hour I was fully dilated and ready to push. With no pain medication. The epidural had given up at that point. Your cute little head was coming out but coming out sideways. It was intense. Luckily it only took three contractions and you were out.  Sideways but perfect! You were immediately placed on my chest and only cried for about ten seconds. After a while they took you to clean you up and get your stats. You weighed in at 7 lbs. 14 oz. (Dad's exact guess) and measured 20 inches long with blue eyes and a whole head of dark brown hair. Meanwhile I needed a few stitches. Gretchen gave me a shot of a local anesthetic.  Just like the epidural it was a dud. I suffered through the stitches. Then Gretchen noticed another tear that she thinks was caused by the CNA inserting or removing the catheter incorrectly.  I suffered through those too while cursing the CNA under my breath. After delivering my placenta I started to hemorrhage. I was laid back and the nurses took turns pushing on my belly to pass the clots. I have never been so scared. It was hands down the most pain I have ever endured. It is funny how quick I have been to forget the pain though and just love the intense way you entered our lives. The stitches held and the bleeding stopped.  After two hours we were wheeled to recovery (with my placenta in a bucket for encapsulation) and greeted by good friends who came bearing spicy chicken nuggets and a Frosty. I think I spent most of the night in shock after the traumatizing delivery. But once the sun came up the next day it was all forgotten and we started our lives together. Your sisters came the next morning to watch you scream through your first bath. They all fought over who got to hold you first and longest. They will take good care of you Oscar. And your Daddy and I will do our very best to protect you and teach you all we know. Welcome to this crazy crazy world little man. I love you fiercely!
Love, Mom

From The Mouth of Babes...And Their Momma.

This week has been exhausting to say the least. Baby boy is giving me a glimpse of what I imagine raising boys must be like because he is full of energy and never stops moving. On top of that we just finished round 3 of antibiotics for Stella's double ear infections and it looks as though the fluid wont be clearing up on it's own.  We visit the ENT tomorrow to schedule her for tubes. But despite all that my kids keep me laughing. Here are a few things they have said and/or I have said to them in the past week that I never expected to hear/say as a mom.

1. Stella: "I'm not a kid anymore, I can wear whatever I want!"

2. Nora: "Mom, today Dad pulled out his pocket knife and cut of all my skins (cuticles)" Aaron is guilty of this as well as picking boogers from Stella's nose with tweezers.

3. Me: "Mabel, stop pinching my boobs!"

4. Stella: "I'm a dult (and adult) Mom, I do what I want!"

5. Me: "Stop choking your sister!"

6. Me: "Who peed all over the floor?"

7. Me (to Mabel): "Get your hand out of every ones butt cracks girl!"

8. Me (to Mabel on multiple occasions this week): "Stop licking the bottoms of shoes!"

9. Mabel: "Di Coke Mom?"

From The Mouth Of Babes.

This week was full of funny and sometimes uncomfortable words spewing from my girls' mouths. I figured I should probably document them and you all might appreciate a laugh on this blustery Monday.

First:
Let me preface this by letting you know we went to Cafe Rio two weeks ago and had a free meal.

I took the kids to McDonalds on Thursday for my daily Diet Coke.
Nora: (to the guy at the drive up with long hair) "MOM is that a boy or a girl?!"
Me: Awkwardly smile at the nice boy.
Stella: "MOM don't pay. FREE MEAL!"
Stella and Nora in unison: chanting "FREE MEAL, FREE MEAL, FREE MEAL!
Me: Hurriedly handed the poor boy my $1.08 and drove off as red as a beet.

Second:
Sweet Mabel learned some new words this week.
"NO!", "Mine", and "That's Gross"
I guess I can't prevent the fact that she will learn from her sisters earlier than each previous kid.

Third:
While at Target Nora and Stella were trying to convince Aaron to buy them a Lego Star Wars set. He told them maybe. I don't know if it was to annoy him or try to persuade him but they both started marching down the aisle holding the set and chanting in unison "Slave Leia!, Slave Leia!, Slave Leia!"
....they got the Lego set.

From The Mouth Of Babes.

A month or so ago I overheard this conversation between Stella and Nora. It still brings a smile to my face every time I think of it.

Nora: (Telling Stella she needed to do something.)
Stella: "Nora, stop being so bossy!"
Nora: "I have to. I am learning to be a mom."

Also, my girls have this belief that being a mom means you have boobs and being a dad means you get to buy a pocket knife.

Recently I hear about 10-15 times a day "Mom, what mells?!?" from Stella. She has a hard time pronouncing the "s" sound so mells means smells. After I reply that I don't know what she is smelling (from her incredibly over active nose) and she asks over and over and over again I go down the maybe list. Maybe it's your feet. Maybe you don't like the smell of the dinner in the crock pot. Maybe you need a bath. Maybe the baby has a stinky. Today after I went through a number of options she replied "I think it's me mom. I farted. Maybe I have to go potty." (Insert eye roll here)

Love those girls!

The Proof Is In The Picture.

Our fetus has a penis :)
IT'S A BOY!!!

And I am still shocked.
At an ultrasound at 14 weeks the midwife said girl.
At the 19 week ultrasound the tech said girl too...
Until she typed "Just kidding, I 'm a boy!!"
He had us all fooled.
I couldn't be more excited and terrified to raise a little boy!
And i'm pretty sure agreeing on a name for this little one is the hardest thing Aaron and I will ever do. I'm debating just going with Stella's suggestion and name him Pancake. Suggestions welcome.

Happy New Year!

It probably comes as no surprise that I NEVER make my New Year resolutions happen. After a month or two they get been pushed to the back of my mind and I forget/lose interest. Well ladies and gentlemen I am happy to announce that I earned a big FAIL for my 2013 goal and I couldn't be happier about it!

Announcing baby Edwards #4.
ETA: August 1, 2014
Which for my inevitably means after that date so i'm shooting for 8-6-2014 (8+6=14). All my kids have cool numerical sequences with their birthdays and I hope to keep up the trend for this (probably our last) baby.
As for this years goals I only have two:
1. Grow a healthy baby and stay as healthy as possible myself while doing so.
2. Spend more time loving on my kids and less time getting distracted with household chores/social media/friends.
Happy New Year!

Grateful.

A lot of my days lately have been filled with anxiety and guilt. Anxiety over finding a new job and getting the bills paid on time. Guilt for being a not so stellar mom because of the toll the anxiety is taking on my body and mind. Today I decided I was just going to spend every second on my kids and try to ignore the job hunting, piles of laundry, dirty bathroom and kitchen and running errands. It has been marvelous. We ate breakfast together, danced, built a fort, read books, danced again, went to lunch and now the girls are reading in their fort together while the baby sleeps. I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the blessing to be their mom. These little girls hold my heart in their tiny hands. I love you to the stars little ones!

Keep Me In Line.

I have this friend MacKenzie who is crafty and cute and rocks the hair cut of my dreams. She is doing a biggest loser competition for the next 10 weeks. I paid my $10, gave up soda (for the umpteenth time), and have been tracking everything I eat. My sweet hubby is ready for baby #4 and I am ok with that. But I want to get my butt back in shape before I carry another bowling ball around. My back can't take another one with out some stronger muscles. If anyone wants to be my work out buddy please let me know. Also, if you see me being tempted to drink soda you have free reign to b*$&% slap me in the face. My body is so much happier without Diet Coke sadly. Today is day two of the next ten weeks. Wish me luck!

There's A First Time For Everything.

Today marked the first time any of my children got a stitches worthy wound.

My girls are really into Mulan lately. While I was finishing up dinner they requested some music from Mulan to dance to. I happily obliged because it meant three distracted kiddos and dinner on the table when Daddy got home. Well Daddy walked in, told the girls to stop twirling because someone was going to get hurt, stepped into the kitchen to say hi to me and Stella promptly twirled into the buffet splitting her head open. One trip to Instacare, two nurses holding her down, one doc, four stitches, one Happy Meal and some Hello Kitty Bandaids later we are good as new. Stella screamed the entire time they held her down and wouldn't speak to any of the nurses the entire time but as soon as they let her go she popped right up, stopped crying and waved to everyone she saw. It was sad but adorable. When we got home I decided getting stitches warranted a late bedtime. Nora suggested watching Brave because "you are brave like Merida, Stella". My heart melted.

Oh and I failed to mention that dinner got overcooked and my sweet husband and daughter still ate it. I came home and cracked open what I thought was a hard boiled egg to find that none of them were cooked. Weird. And in case you were wondering, when your little one hands you the last bite of her cheeseburger to eat and you lick the ketchup off your finger...make sure its ketchup, not blood. Happy hump day. Love you to the stars brave Suey!

Cabin Trip.

We took a little getaway to Driggs, ID this weekend with some friends to visit their cabin and celebrate Aaron's 29th birthday. There was a whole lot of this going on...

And also Stella decided she wanted to go back to sleeping in a crib. Yay for regression that helps the world sleep better. And Mabel decided she is done nursing. Yay for getting my boobs back, soggy as they may be, but boo that I wont get the nursing snuggles anymore. Change is good right?!? Thanks Taylors! Happy Birthday Babe. Love you!

We Party Hard Over Here.

Here are the photos from our 1st birthday celebration for Mabel. We opted for pizza and applesauce since they are Mabel's favorites. A big thanks to the University Federal Credit Union for the Costco gift card the day of the party that funded it and to my mom for providing Sweet Tooth Fairy cupcakes at the last minute after a cupcake "malfunction" earlier in the day. Also, i'm pretty sure that for every future holiday I am going to cover the table in brown paper again. It was one of my better ideas. Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us. Love you baby, Happy Birthday!

Dear Mabel.

Happy 1st Birthday Little Red!
My life has changed more in the past year that in any other year of my life. I am so blessed to have you with me to help me along the ride and bring sweet magic to our family. I do love you so. You seem to have decided that age one is old enough to be big and it is breaking my heart a little bit even though it is so fun to watch you play. You climb everything now including onto the couch and beds. You also have started saying your animal sounds (Dog, Cat, Tiger and Wolf) and holding up your arms when you want to be held just melting my momma heart. The most bittersweet change that age one has brought with it is the lessening desire for you to nurse. You are weaning yourself and I don't know that I am quite ready to give up that special bond. Although, less nursing means you are sleeping way better thankfully. Just stop growing up so fast already. I love you to the starts sweet Mabs!
Love,
Momma
^This is the newest face you make when I ask you to smile. Also, a special thanks to Steve and Micah for gifting little Mabel her Pony that she loves so much!

Oldie But Goodie.

I found this gem today. It is from back in the Spring when we signed up Nora for soccer and she hated every second of it until the last second when she got her plastic trophy.  By game three when we took a crying four-year-old to the field she finally admitted that she didn't like when the coach told her to "run, Nora, run" and she hated that she was always so sweaty. Needless to say we will be sticking to dance for Nora. I can't blame her, I quit soccer on day one.

October Bliss.

I was made for October. I was also born in October as well as some of my most favorite people on this planet. That crisp wonderfully smelling air is nearly impossible to beat. Oh and did I mention my favorite outfit is jeans and a t-shirt with a hoodie at the ready. Perfect October attire. This year in October we celebrate Mabel's 1st birthday, bittersweet. And Aaron's 29th, our last year before he hits the big "30" and have to pretend we are actually adults. But this October 1st marks a very special day on my calendar. Stella Sue is officially potty trained. Holla! And she did it all on her own. I am one proud Momma. Happy October 1st everyone. I hope your day has been as fabulous as mine. Here's to Stella, the feisty little firecracker who does things her way on her own time just like her stubborn Momma. And to Mabel, my sweet little Red. Happy Birthday tomorrow! Don't get too old.
